Before women in black hats became Halloween decorations, there were the women people went to when they were sick, pregnant, heartbroken, frightened...or desperate.

They knew which herbs soothed a fever, how to deliver a baby, what to whisper over a wound, and which remedies had been handed down for generations. They were healers, midwives, wise women, herbalists, charmers…and sometimes, when fear, religion, jealousy or power shifted against them, they became witches.

Spend a deliciously wicked Sunday afternoon in the Glenn House Carriage House exploring the intoxicating intersection of folk medicine, magic, women’s work, superstition and scandal. We’ll meet real women whose knowledge made them indispensable, suspicious, powerful and sometimes dangerous in the eyes of the people around them.

Expect wicked history, fascinating stories, beverages, light snacks, and a hands-on take-home project in one of Cape Girardeau’s most atmospheric historic settings.
