Full course description

The Steelmaking Bootcamp is an intensive, short-term workforce training program designed to prepare individuals for entry-level employment in steel manufacturing and related industrial environments. Built around real-world industry expectations, the program provides participants with the technical knowledge, safety training, and workplace skills required to succeed on the production floor.

The bootcamp consists of 80 hours of hands-on instruction covering core areas of steel manufacturing and industrial operations. Training begins with an emphasis on workplace safety, teamwork, and professional conduct, including anti-harassment training, OSHA-10 General Industry certification, first aid and CPR, and effective radio communication. These foundational skills establish a strong safety culture and prepare participants for industrial job sites.

Participants are introduced to steelmaking processes and gain practical exposure to preventative maintenance, quality basics for operators, and mechanical measurement techniques. Instruction also includes math for manufacturing, proper use of tools, and an overview of hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical systems commonly found in steel production facilities.

The program further prepares participants through forklift and crane safety training, providing awareness of material handling and equipment operation standards. Additional instruction in blueprint reading helps participants understand drawings, measurements, and layouts used in industrial settings.

To support long-term career success, the bootcamp incorporates personal finance planning, company partner tours, and a dedicated career day, giving participants insight into employer expectations, workplace culture, and available career pathways within the steel and manufacturing industries.

Participants who complete the Steelmaking Bootcamp will earn an OSHA‑10 General Industry certification, an American Heart Association First Aid/CPR certification, and a Rough Terrain & Counterbalance Forklift Operator Certification. After successfully passing a summative assessment that verifies their skill proficiency, each participant will also receive a Steelmaking Bootcamp Certificate of Completion.
