Full course description
History has always had scammers.
Long before social media, people were selling miracle cures, inventing questionable machines, staging elaborate hoaxes, running clever cons, and convincing crowds to believe things that were absolutely, positively, unquestionably true.
In this session of Weird Wednesdays After Dark, we’ll meet some of history’s most memorable tricksters and explore the scams, frauds, and publicity stunts that captured public attention.
We’ll look at why people believed them, how the stories spread, who benefited, and what these episodes reveal about human curiosity, trust, fear, and our endless attraction to a really good story.
You may leave wondering whether people have changed as much as we like to think.
Step right up. There’s a sucker born every minute. Or is there?
