Time limit: 30 days
Full course description
Step into the wild, weird world of B-movies and grindhouse cinema! This four-week adventure takes you on a journey through cult classics: from atomic monsters of the '50s to the outrageous slasher flicks of the '80s. Each session, we’ll dive into the era’s most infamous films, unpack how these low-budget gems reflected America’s biggest fears and fantasies, and have some good laughs along the way. Perfect for anyone who loves a good story (or a good scare) this course will show you how "trash cinema" became cultural gold.
In this four-week immersive workshop, you’ll step into the thrilling world of grindhouse cinema. Each session, you’ll explore a different era—starting with the atomic-age monsters of the '50s, moving through rebellious '60s biker films, and diving into the outrageous blaxploitation and slasher era of the '70s and '80s.
You’ll watch iconic clips, discuss what made these films so daring (and sometimes hilarious), and unpack how they reflected bigger social anxieties—from Cold War fears to cultural revolutions. Expect guest discussions, behind-the-scenes insights, and some good old-fashioned grindhouse fun. You’ll leave not only with a new appreciation for these cult classics but also how so-called “trash cinema” influenced modern pop culture.
Come ready to laugh, gasp, and see American history through the most outrageous lens possible! Classes run from July 11 to August 1, Saturdays, 1–5 PM at the Catapult Conference Room.
